"China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mao Ning, warned the US to stop using China as a pretext to advance its plans regarding Greenland during a press conference in Beijing on Monday. "China's activities in the Arctic aim to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and are in accordance with international law [...] The United States should not use other countries as an excuse to pursue its own selfish interests," she said. It comes after US President Donald Trump revealed Washington's intention to control Greenland, citing 'national security' and threats from Russia and China. The US president announced he has not ruled out using force to seize the Danish territory. This is not the first time Trump has made an offer to buy Greenland. During his first term, Trump made an offer to Denmark to purchase the island, but was told it was not for sale. The renewed interest in the Arctic island also comes amid increased interest in Greenland's natural resources, including rare earth minerals, which are becoming easier to access as its ice melts due to climate change. The spokesperson also commented on US plans to retaliate if Iran harms protesters. "We consistently oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs, consistently maintain that the sovereignty and security of all countries should be fully protected by international law, and oppose the use of force or the threat of force in international relations," she said. Furthermore, Mao demanded that Washington respect the sovereignty of Latin American countries, as well as cease 'any form of coercion' against Cuba. It comes as Trump warned Cuba of relying too heavily on Venezuela's resources, while also previously claiming that the country was 'ready to fail', after the recent US strikes in Caracas that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro."
