'There is a new world order!' - Hungarian FM Szijjarto hints at direct Trump-Orban talks

"Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Prime Minister Viktor Orban and US President Donald Trump were edging closer to direct talks, speaking on Balazs Nemeth's Warrior's Podcast in Budapest on Monday. "There is a new world order, that is not even a question. Everyone must acknowledge this because those who do not accept it will certainly become isolated or, even worse, end up in danger," Szijjarto said. Orban visited Washington, DC on November 7, meeting Trump at the White House and securing a one‑year exemption from US sanctions on Russian oil and gas supplies. The foreign minister described a reciprocal visit as the 'next logical step'. Commenting on US plans to acquire Greenland, Szijjarto described Trump as a 'serious man' who should be 'taken seriously.' The foreign minister also noted increasing unrest in Iran, saying, "We will see how the internal dynamics will develop." "I sincerely hope that Iran will not become the source of a new international armed conflict in the future," he added. Hungary and the US have strengthened relations since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025. Trump has publicly praised Orban's leadership, even sending best wishes ahead of upcoming national elections and citing Hungary's 'bold leadership' on defence and migration. However, long‑term financial support from the US remains unresolved, and Budapest still faces pressure over its stance within the European Union and NATO."
