Ostrava Unveils Designs for New 20,000-Seat Football Stadium

Architectural designs for a new football stadium in Ostrava were presented on Tuesday. The project concerns the planned Nové Bazaly stadium, which is expected to seat about 20,000 spectators. From January 14, nine shortlisted designs will be displayed at an exhibition in the city hall of the Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz district. The exhibition includes a model of the winning proposal by the Barcelona-based studio L35 Arquitectos. City officials and representatives of FC Baník Ostrava announced the results of the international competition at a press conference. According to the city, construction could start in 2029. The stadium is expected to be completed two years later. The cost of the main structure is estimated at around 2.5 billion crowns. The new stadium is planned for the site of the former Bazaly ground, where Baník Ostrava played home matches from 1959 until the end of the 2014–15 season. The venue is intended to meet requirements for international matches. Plans also include a club museum, restaurants, and fan shops.
