The Manila Police District (MPD) reported Tuesday a 10 percent decline in focus crimes in the capital city last year. It said that focus crimes—which include theft, robbery, rape, murder, homicide, physical injury, and carjacking of motorcycles and motor vehicles—decreased from 1,108 incidents in 2024 to 988 in 2025, reflecting a decrease of 120 cases. MPD's records revealed that the number of major cases also dropped. Rape cases dropped the most, falling by 20.68 percent, from 203 cases in 2024 to 161 in 2025. Murder cases also saw a big decrease, going down by 47.5 percent, from 80 to 42 incidents. Theft declined by 8.8 percent, from 420 to 383 cases. Motorcycle theft went down by 12.64 percent, from 87 to 76 cases, while carjacking cases dropped by 40 percent, from 20 to 12. Robbery incidents slightly decreased, from 157 to 154. Special complex crimes also fell, from three cases in 2024 to two in 2025. MPD Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Abad said the decrease in crimes was due to the effectiveness of the Philippine National Police’s Focused Agenda, combined with stronger police presence in the city. “It is clear from these numbers that our efforts are effective. This is the result of a stronger police presence, faster response times, and improved police-community relations, which were achieved through consistent implementation of crime prevention and law enforcement strategies on the ground,” Abad said.
