Commissioner reviews anti-encroachment drive

KARACHI: The Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi in a meeting on Tuesday, reviewed the ongoing campaign against roadside encroachments to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city. The meeting was attended by all deputy commissioners, Additional Commissioner‑I, Ghulam  Mehdi Shah, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters, Rabia Saeed, Assistant Commissioner (General) Hazim  Bhangwar, whereas all Assistant Commissioners attended the meeting via video link. The DCs briefed the commissioner on the operation in their respective districts. The ACs also briefed about the progress in their sub-divisions. The commissioner took notice on the recurrence of encroachments in various areas and directed that those who have submitted affidavits must strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs). That, any violation of the SOPs despite the affidavit will face heavy fines and possible arrest. He urged all DCs to strictly enforce the SOPs. The DCs reported that after obtaining written assurances of compliance, shops and hotels had been de‑sealed and were being monitored. The commissioner warned that the trend of roadside encroachments in the city is rising and needs to be curbed without delay. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
