6 provinces in Visayas, Mindanao under Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression Ada

MANILA, Philippines — Six provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao have been placed under Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression Ada, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Wednesday. Affected areas are Northern Samar, Samar and Eastern Samar in the Visayas and Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur in Mindanao, Nathaniel Servando, Pagasa chief, said in a briefing. Servando said “Ada”, the first storm to hit the country in 2026, was estimated 635 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It was moving north-westward at 35 kilometers per hour (kph). The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph, the weather bureau said. In the next three days, Pagasa said “Ada” would be moving west-northwestward to northwestward and may pass close or make landfall over Eastern Visayas on Friday or early Saturday morning. “It will then pass close or make landfall over Catanduanes on Saturday or Sunday. Afterwards, it will generally turn northeastward over the sea east of Luzon,” Servando said.
