RTC issues arrest warrant vs Atong Ang, 17 others

MANILA, Philippines — A regional trial court in Sta. Cruz, Laguna issued a warrant of arrest against businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang and 17 others in connection with a kidnapping with homicide case linked to the disappearance of several sabungeros or cockfighting enthusiasts. The crime is non-bailable. In an order dated January 13, 2026, Regional Trial Court Branch 26 found probable cause to arrest the accused, whose listed addresses were in Muntinlupa City as well as parts of Laguna and Batangas. The court said the charge of kidnapping with homicide carries no entitlement to bail due to the gravity of the offense. Presiding Judge Mary Jean Cajandab-Ong also directed arresting officers to strictly comply with existing rules on the use of body-worn cameras during the implementation of the warrant. The order required the use of at least one body camera and an alternative recording device to document the arrest process. Copies of the warrant were furnished to the Philippine National Police’s Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management and the concerned police station commanders for immediate enforcement. The arrest order stemmed from charges filed by the Department of Justice in December 2025 against Ang and several others over the disappearance of cockfighting enthusiasts who were last seen participating in e-sabong events.
