"Barcelona officially reintroduced Joao Cancelo on Tuesday after securing the Portuguese full-back on loan from Al-Hilal until the end of the season, marking his return to the club just months after his previous spell ended. Footage from the presentation shows the Portuguese player posing with his number 2 shirt, smiling as he addressed the media. “I played here for one year, just one season. But today I came back and felt right at home. Everyone in the dressing room welcomed me warmly,” he told reporters. Cancelo, who reportedly was keen to leave Al-Hilal during the January transfer window, had interest from Inter, Juventus, and Inter Milan. “I had some clubs interested. But from the moment he called me, and I said I was going to wait for Barca, I told those clubs because they had already contacted me before, and I told them that my first choice was Barca. I was going to wait for them,” the defender said. The defender spoke warmly about the current squad, highlighting its growth since his last stint. “It’s a team with a lot of talent. When I was here, some of the kids became men,” he said, stressing his desire to contribute rather than take centre stage. Asked about Barcelona’s rivalry with Real Madrid, Cancelo downplayed external narratives. “Madrid is a great club, and no one doubts that, but I don't think that affects what Barca is looking for. Barca always tries to win. Whether Madrid is doing well or badly,” he added. “All my idols played here, Dani Alves, Ronaldinho,” he said. “I have a special affection for Barcelona, and that’s why I wanted to come back.” The Portuguese international previously featured prominently with Barca during the 2023/24 season, making 42 appearances across all competitions.
