"Iranian Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni said the authorities would act 'quickly' to deal with rioters, amid recent protests in the country. "These are the people who really behead people, burn them, set them on fire. Well, if we want to do something, we need to do it quickly and on time," he said. "If the work is delayed, it’s possible that the very thing we’re doing today will be done two months from now, and it won’t have the same effect," he added. Mohseni said the dual focuses were “dealing with these rioters and clarifying the proceedings,” and “fighting economic corruption". Earlier, Iranian Supreme Court Chief Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said that "judicial action against rioters will be firm and within the law, but it will no longer involve leniency or tolerance as in the past". Economic protests have been ongoing in Iran since December, and intensified in recent days and weeks, with Iran accusing Donald Trump of inflaming tensions - after he warned the authorities he could intervene in the event of a potential crackdown. On Tuesday, Trump reiterated to Iranian protesters that 'help is on the way' - and told them to 'keep protesting' - as he addressed the Detroit Economic Club on Tuesday. "To all Iranian patriots, keep protesting. Take over your institutions, if possible," he said. "And all I say to them is help is on its way. You saw that I put tariffs on anybody doing business with Iran. Just went into effect today." He did not expand on what he meant by 'help' although the White House has said airstrikes are among the 'many' options. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei claimed some rioters were destroying property to 'please' the US president."
