"Civil Defence teams in Gaza recovered the remains of people killed during the war that erupted in the Strip on October 7, 2023, months after the fighting ended. Footage filmed in the Al-Daraj neighbourhood of Gaza City on Wednesday, shows Civil Defence personnel exhuming remains, as relatives gathered nearby, many overcome with grief and tears. Sally al-Durra, who lost her husband and daughters during the war, shared she was unable to locate her husband's remains at the time of his death. "I came today based on descriptions, because I was injured and could not say goodbye to him when he was killed," she said. Sally added her daughters and her parents remain buried under the rubble in Gaza, without her having had the chance to bid them farewell. Kamal Hamadeh, a bereaved father who lost his daughter, eldest son and other relatives during the war, described the process as reopening a 'huge wound'. "They are gone and at rest, but we are still suffering," he said. "My daughter was killed while holding children in her arms. What had they done wrong? Here she is, buried alongside her daughters." Abdullah al-Majdalawi, a Civil Defence worker, reported the cemetery contained around 50 bodies, about 70 percent of which had been identified. He added that Civil Defence crews would continue transferring remains from other makeshift burial sites to official cemeteries for proper burial. Gaza's Ministry of Health said that 710 bodies have been recovered since the end of the war, adding that the total death toll since October 7, 2023, has risen to 71,439, with 171,324 people wounded, as of the time of publication. Israel and Hamas signed a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10 as part of the 20-point 'Trump Plan'. The deal includes a halt to hostilities, the release of all hostages - living and deceased - and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza."
