(UPDATE) BUSINESS tycoon Enrique Razon Jr. filed a cyber libel complaint against suspended Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco Barzaga at the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, Jan. 14. The complaint came after Barzaga’s Jan. 9 Facebook post, in which he accused Razon of bribing lawmakers from the National Unity Party to support former House speaker Martin Romualdez. Razon’s camp assailed the claims as false and damaging, prompting the legal suit. “I filed a complaint for cyber libel. This was the Facebook post that Congressman Barzaga made on his Facebook account last January 9th. What we consider to be the defamatory statements,” Razon told reporters after submitting the complaint. Barzaga, who is serving a 60‑day suspension without pay from the House for previous controversial posts, defended his allegations on a Facebook video posted Wednesday. He said he will take the matter to court and present evidence in both Congress and the courts, claiming that NUP Chairman Ronaldo Puno had filed multiple cases against him over his disclosure of hundreds of millions of pesos allegedly received by NUP candidates from Razon during elections. “Our country is controlled by wealthy businessmen, and Razon is the most powerful of them all. But good must always stand against evil, no matter how wealthy and influential that evil is,” Barzaga added. Likewise, Barzaga responded to the filing through a Facebook post saying he is prepared to face Razon. “I am prepared to face Enrique Razon in court, the sooner, the better! #IkulongSiRazon,” Barzaga said in his response post.
