Sales of existing US homes strongest in nearly three years

WASHINGTON, United States — Sales of previously owned homes in the United States rose more than expected in December to the strongest in nearly three years, on the back of lower mortgage rates, industry data showed Wednesday. Existing home sales jumped by 5.1 percent from the prior month, reaching a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.35 million units, said the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
