Arsenal edge Chelsea in first leg of League Cup semifinal

Mistakes from Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez led to two of Arsenal's three goals in his side's 3-2 loss in the League Cup semifinal first leg on Wednesday, reported Xinhua. Sanchez failed to deal with Declan Rice's corner, allowing Ben White to head in from close range in the seventh minute. Four minutes after halftime, the goalkeeper let a cross slip through his hands for Viktor Gyokeres to double the lead. Alejandro Garnacho halved Chelsea's deficit in the 57th minute, steering Pedro Neto's cross into the net. However, Arsenal's two-goal cushion was quickly restored as Martin Zubimendi danced past Andrey Santos and Wesley Fofana before finishing confidently from just inside the area in the 71st minute. Garnacho volleyed home after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's clearance fell to him in the 83rd minute, keeping Chelsea's hopes alive heading into the second leg scheduled for February 3 at Emirates Stadium.
