Greg James Gets Candid About 'Grumpy T**t' Alan Sugar Interview

Greg James Greg James revealed his true thoughts on some of the people he’s worked with throughout his presenting career. Over the years, the Radio 1 star has hosted Hollywood royalty, industry legends and household favourites – but there is one guest with whom Greg has a gripe. Speaking on the Happy Hour podcast, Greg called out The Apprentice ’s Alan Sugar for being a “grumpy old twat”. During a quickfire round in which the DJ gave his honest opinion on popular British celebrities that he’s encountered, he was prompted to reveal how he really felt about Alan Sugar. He recalled: “We did this thing every year when The Apprentice started where I would do an interview with him where it would just be the joke was I’d be his like annoying nephew, just annoying uncle Alan Sugar. “We did a couple of them and it was really fun because he was playing the grump and then it just got to the point where he was just being an arse.” Alan Sugar at the TV Baftas in 2013 Greg added that after many years of these style of interviews, Alan suddenly changed into “an old grump. “I was like, ‘this not fun anymore’,” he admitted. “It was just aggie. I was like, ‘no, we’re done here’.” In a 2016 interview with the BBC , Greg described working with Alan as his “favourite, least favourite interview”. “He never seems to rise to my stupidity so it’s perfect for me because I just keep going at him. He just keeps batting it away, he never gets riled. He just stays at the same level of annoyed the whole time. I really enjoy it because I can say what I like to him and his responses are great, even if he just grunts,” he said, although this soon changed for the mogul. On a more positive note, Greg couldn’t praise David Attenborough enough when asked by the Happy Hour hosts if there were any guests he’d still like to interview again. “He knows exactly who he is,” Greg enthused. “He’s David Attenborough! But he is very comfortable with what he’s done in his career. He’s not a massive ego. He turns up maybe with someone from the show he’s working on, but he doesn’t turn up with 17 people.” Greg also spoke highly of a 2015 episode of his old drivetime show, during which the legendary broadcaster narrated the music video for Adele’s then-recent single Hello , a viral moment the TV icon was happy to join in with.
