Bahrain: Birth Of Sha’ban Crescent Expected On Sunday

Astronomical researcher Mohammed Redha Al Asfour said that, based on astronomical data and calculations, the crescent moon marking the start of Sha’ban 1447 AH will be born on Sunday evening, January 18, 2026, at 10:52 pm local time in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He explained that because the crescent will be born after sunset on Sunday, it will not be possible to sight it on that day. Al Asfour added that on Monday, January 19, 2026, the sun will set at 5:11 pm, while the moon will be about six degrees above the horizon. At that time, the moon will be 18 hours and 18 minutes old, with an illumination of around 0.6 percent. The moon is expected to set at 5:45 pm, about 34 minutes after sunset, making it possible to see using binoculars or optical instruments if weather conditions are clear in Bahrain. He noted that the arrival of Sha’ban each year marks the beginning of preparations for the holy month of Ramadan. He prayed that God grants everyone the opportunity to reach Ramadan and returns it to the Islamic nation with goodness, prosperity, and blessings.
