Rescue and recovery efforts continue after crane collapse on Thai motorway leaves at least two dead

"At least two people have been killed after a construction crane collapsed onto moving vehicles on Rama II Road in Thailand’s Samut Sakhon province, according to rescue workers at the scene. Two vehicles were crushed in the incident. Rescue teams worked for hours amid twisted metal and concrete debris, saying both vehicles were in motion at the time of the collapse. “One thing is certain: people were driving, because the vehicles were moving when they were crushed,” a rescue volunteer said, adding that crews had confirmed that drivers were present inside both vehicles, although it remained unclear whether there were additional passengers trapped beneath the concrete sections. Medical teams from the Ministry of Public Health were deployed to the site to assist the injured and support rescue efforts. A senior health official said authorities were prepared to mobilise medical teams as the situation evolved. The incident brought renewed concerns over safety along the Rama II Road, a major infrastructure project that has been under construction for years. A senior doctor from a local hospital said the road has seen a long history of serious accidents. "More than 1,400 people have been injured and around 140 people have died, which makes me extremely concerned about this road," he explained. Officials said the number of dead could rise as recovery efforts continue."
