Leviste files P110M libel case against Palace press exec

MANILA, Philippines - Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste filed a P110 million cyber libel suit against Palace Press Officer Clarissa Castro over statements that he sold his companies without prior approval from Congress. Leviste was accompanied by his lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio at the Balayan Regional Trial Court to file the case against Castro. Speaking to reporters, Leviste cited Castro's statements in her vlog that the lawmaker allegedly sold Solar Philippines Power Project Holdings, Inc., which was slapped a P24 billion fine by the Department of Energy after it failed to deliver on its commitments to the government. "Hindi ko po binenta ang prangkisa dahil wala akong kumpanyang may prangkisa na binenta ko. Ang binenta kong kumpanya ay walang prangkisa (I did not sell the franchise because I dod not have a compay with a franchise that I sold. The company I sold did not have a franchise)," Leviste said, referring to SP New Energy Holdings which was sold to Meralco in 2024. He added that he did not want to hurt Castro but he has to defend his name against her tirades. "Napakarami pong grounds to file a case on [Undersecretary] Castro for libel (There are so many grounds to file a case on Castro for libel)," Leviste said.
