255 students awarded degrees at FUUAST convocation

KARACHI: Degrees were awarded to 255 male and female students at the Sixth Convocation of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST), held at the PAF Museum, Karachi. Graduates from various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes belonging to the Faculties of Science, Business Administration, Commerce and Economics, Arts, Law, Education, Arabic and Islamic Studies, and Pharmacy received their degrees. On the occasion, 47 students were awarded Gold Medals, 24 received Silver Medals, and 16 were conferred Bronze Medals, while two students were given special certificates for outstanding performance in co-curricular activities.The ceremony was graced by Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori as the Chief Guest, while Member of the National Assembly Syed Amin-ul-Haque addressed the gathering as the Guest of Honour. The event was attended by MNA Sabin Ghauri, members of the FUUAST Senate including Saeedullah Wala and Shakeel Rehman, senior university officials, faculty members, parents, and a large number of distinguished guests. Addressing the ceremony, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori announced that various technology-related courses are being offered at the Governor House for 2,000 students of the Federal Urdu University, aimed at equipping youth with modern skills to avail better opportunities in practical life. He emphasised that students must acquire expertise in contemporary knowledge and technology to play an effective role in the country’s development. Speaking on the occasion, Guest of Honour Amin-ul-Haque stated that during the past two years, special funds have been provided to the Federal Urdu University, and its government grant has been increased by 15 percent. However, he expressed concern over the decline in student enrollment at FUUAST, while enrollment is increasing at Karachi University and NED University. He termed this a serious issue and stressed that the university administration must improve academic standards and facilities to overcome the challenge. He further announced that FUUAST convocations will now be held regularly every year to encourage students and promote academic traditions. In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari said that the convocation of the Federal Urdu University has been successfully held for the past two consecutive years under the patronage of MNA and Chairman Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, Amin-ul-Haque, and due to effective leadership in Karachi. He highlighted the dedication of the university’s faculty and staff, stating that despite not receiving salaries for the past three months and facing severe hardships, they continue to serve the institution with commitment. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, Amin-ul-Haque, Vice Chancellor Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari, and other dignitaries distributed the degrees and medals among students who demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
