'No solution for Venezuela can be imposed from the outside' - Spanish FM says release of prisoners in Venezuela a 'positive step'

"Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares on Thursday welcomed the release of Spanish nationals from Venezuelan prisons as a ‘positive step’ - and warned that 'no solution for Venezuela can be imposed from the outside' - seaking at a press conference in Madrid on Thursday. Four Spanish citizens and a prominent Venezuelan-Spanish human rights activist arrived in Madrid following their release, including other Spaniards freed earlier in the week. Albares confirmed that nine Spanish nationals have now been released since Friday. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Spanish Embassy in Caracas have worked intensely from the very beginning to secure their release, also keeping us in continuous contact with their families, who have suffered greatly during these months without being able to be with their loved ones,” he said. He added that he had personally met with some of the freed prisoners. The release comes amid a broader effort by Venezuela’s interim authorities. Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez said more than 400 people had been freed in recent days. Speaking about the next phase of Venezuela, Albares stressed that Spain supported a Venezuelan-led resolution - despite Donald Trump's own vow to 'run' the country. The US leader held talks with opposition leader Maria Corina Machado on Thursday, after also praising interim president Delcy Rodriguez. “No solution for Venezuela can be imposed from the outside, much less by force. The only viable way out today, as always, must be Venezuelan, through dialogue, peaceful and democratic, respecting the will of the Venezuelan people and sovereignty over their natural resources, which are also part of the sovereignty of every country," Albares said. He added that Spain is engaging with both the government and the opposition to foster a broad dialogue for a peaceful, democratic, and negotiated solution, saying, “No future, no community, no hope can be built on arbitrariness and violence.” The freed Spaniards included Andres Martinez, Jose Maria Basoa, Ernesto Gorbe, Miguel Moreno, and human rights lawyer Rocio San Miguel. Some of those released have chosen to remain in Venezuela, while others returned to Spain to reunite with their families."
