ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the schedules for the delimitation of wards, and village councils respectively for 42 Cantonment Boards (CBs) across the four provinces, and 24 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with both the delimitation exercises scheduled to be completed on the coming April 20. As per the separate notifications issued by the electoral entity on Friday, the completion of all the administrative arrangements, including procurement of maps and relevant data as well as training of delimitation committees and delimitation authorities would be done during January 19 to February 2. The notification of the final list of delimitation of wards/village councils by the delimitation committees would be issued on April 20, according to the ECP’s Friday notifications. The notification for delimitation of wards in the CBs suggested that in Punjab, the delimitation would be carried out in the CBs of Rawalpindi, Chaklala, Taxila, Wah, Attock, Kamra, Sanjwal, Jhelum, Mangla, Kharian, Murree Hills, Sargodha, Shorkot, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, Walton, Okara, Multan and Bahawalpur. In Sindh, the CBs include Pano Aqil, Hyderabad, Karachi, Clifton, Manora, Malir, Faisal and Korangi Creek. In KP, Peshawar, Nowshera, Cherat, Risalpur, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad, Havelian and Murree Gallies are the CBs that would undergo delimitation of the wards. And, in Balochistan, the CBs of Quetta, Loralai and Zhob would have the delimitation of wards, in accordance with the ECP notification. The notification of the delimitation of village/neighbourhood councils in KP suggested that the delimitation would be carried out in 24 districts: Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mohmand, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, Tank, Abbottabad, Haripur, Battagram, Torghar, Kohistan Upper, Kohistan Lower, Kolai Palas, Swat, Buner, Chitral Lower, Dir Lower and 24 Dir Upper. The Section 221 of the Elections Act, 2017 provides that for the purpose of holding elections to the local governments, the ECP shall delimit constituencies of the local governments, including union councils, wards in a union council, a ward in a district council or ward in a municipal committee, as far as possible and subject to necessary modifications.
