Fire erupts at KICT

KARACHI: A fire erupted in a container inside the Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) on Friday, prompting an immediate response from rescue teams and port security personnel. According to the details, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry took notice of the incident and directed Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmad (Retd), along with all relevant officials, to reach the site immediately. Under the supervision of the KPT Chairman, fire fighting operations were launched promptly. Initial reports indicated that more than 80 percent of the fire had been brought under control, with no loss of life reported. Minister Chaudhry instructed authorities to utilize all available resources to extinguish the blaze quickly and requested a detailed report on the incident from the port team. By late afternoon, the fire was completely extinguished. KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmad (Retd) commended the outstanding performance of KPT and Pakistan Navy fire teams in controlling the situation. “The fire fighting teams from KPT and Pakistan Navy demonstrated excellent professionalism,” said Rear Admiral Ahmad. He also acknowledged the participation of Rescue 1122 and Karachi Shipyard fire tenders in the operation. The Chairman praised the effective cooperation of all institutions involved in the fire fighting effort, describing the professional skills of the fire teams as “commendable.” Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
