Sextortion or sexual online blackmail is a phenomenon people in Flanders have become increasingly familiar with. Youngsters are asked to pay up or provide more material, if they don’t want their explicit snaps shared. The Brussels-based European centre for missing and sexually-exploited children, Child Focus, is now witnessing a new phenomenon. Youngsters are increasingly being encouraged to share photos and videos of more extreme forms of sexual behaviour, but also self-harm.
