Thread by thread - Mexico sets Guinness record for world's largest embroidery and textile exhibition

"Mexico set a Guinness World Record for the largest embroidery and textile exhibition, with more than 3,000 validated pieces on display at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex in Mexico City. Footage filmed on Friday show visitors admiring the colourful and intricate embroideries, which represent all the country's states. The exhibition features embroideries from 200 artisans across Mexico's 32 federal entities. The works use more than four colours and were created using a range of traditional and contemporary techniques, including cross stitch, drawn thread and pedal loom weaving. Each state contributed pieces depicting scenes or symbols linked to local identity, such as the metro, the axolotl and lucha libre masks from Mexico City, as well as animals considered sacred by indigenous communities, including in the state of Nayarit. "I found it very incredible because it represents our country, our culture, our customs. It is something that is born from our roots," said a tourist. As this was the first exhibition of its kind, Guinness World Records verified that the pieces met all requirements before awarding the title, setting a benchmark that may be difficult to match given the wide range of techniques involved. "This kind of initiative is not only a tourist attraction; it also has international significance. Being certified by Guinness World Records, the global authority on superlatives, gives it worldwide recognition and helps turn it into a positive story around the world," highlighted Ingrid Rodriguez, commercial liaison for the organisation that verifies numerous world records. The exhibition attracted a very strong interest, and authorities announced they would consider assembling all the embroideries into a single canvas for permanent display at the cultural complex."
