'Europe cannot find the right answers!' - Hungary FM Szijjarto blasts EU sanctions on Russia, warns Brussels isolated in 'neighbourhood of war'

"Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned that Europe has failed to adapt to a shifting 'new world order', saying Brussels' sanctions policy is backfiring on the European economy, during a visit to Bekescsaba on Friday. "A new world order has emerged around us, both politically and economically. And here in Europe, we must sadly acknowledge that in this new world order, Europe seems unable to find its place or the right answers. We are living in the neighbourhood of a war," stated Szijjarto. The foreign minister argued that EU sanctions on Russia have hurt European economies more than Russia's and weakened the bloc's global competitiveness. "Sanctions are creating ever more serious challenges for the European economy, and we see that Europe and its power centre in Brussels are becoming increasingly isolated from the major players in the global economy and global politics," he continued. "Today, they are openly building a war economy, and we in Hungary firmly reject this, living next to the war and facing its consequences day by day," he said. Hungary has refused to support the EU-proposed punitive measures aimed at restricting Budapest's continued cooperation with Moscow, calling the actions 'unfair and outrageous'. The EU recently approved an additional €90 billion loan for Kiev over the next two years, after the bloc failed to agree on a proposal to use €210 billion in frozen Russian assets. Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic opted out of the deal. Budapest has also opposed providing major military aid to Ukraine, citing concerns over corruption in Kiev. Hungarian officials have urged the European Union to suspend funding until there are clearer measures to ensure transparency and proper oversight."
