All eyes on Davos - Heightened security as Alpine town prepares for 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting

"The Swiss Alpine town of Davos is preparing to host the 56th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, scheduled to take place from January 19 to 23. Footage from Saturday shows banners installed across the city and at the Davos Congress Centre, as security personnel patrol the streets. According to local media, around 5,000 Swiss Army troops have been deployed to bolster security, alongside the establishment of a restricted airspace over the town. Hotel occupancy in Davos has reached 95%, with remaining rooms in four-star hotels reportedly priced above CHF 1,500 per night - nearly double rates seen in previous years. The World Economic Forum 2026 is being held under the theme 'Future's Frontline,' with discussions set to focus on global security, geopolitical fragmentation, economic resilience and the role of emerging technologies in shaping international stability."
