"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 in Guwahati on Saturday, where 10,000 Bodo dancers took part in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record. Footage shows thousands performing the Bagurumba, also known as the 'Butterfly Dance', which sees women dancers mimic the movements of butterflies, symbolising nature's harmony. Men can also be seen playing instruments such as the kham drum, sifung bamboo flute, and wooden percussion tools to accompany the dancers' movements. "This event is a living celebration of Bodo identity. This is also a respect for the Bodo society and the heritage of Assam," Modi said during his speech. "'Bagurumba Dahou' is not just a festival. It is a platform to honour the great Bodo tradition and to remember the distinguished personalities of Bodo society," he continued. Officials confirmed that organisers are submitting evidence to Guinness World Records, but certification is still pending at the time of publication. If verified, it could become the largest gathering of Bagurumba dancers in history."
