"Train derailment in Adamuz - Emergency crews evacuate passengers, recover bodies as dozens killed, hundreds injured in deadliest crash since 2013 Emergency crews continued evacuating passengers and recovering bodies on Sunday night after a high-speed train derailed and collided with another approaching train near Adamuz, killing at least 39 people and leaving more than 100 injured, according to reports. Footage shows damaged train carriages scattered across the tracks, with rescue workers carrying a body on a stretcher and passengers climbing out of a carriage tilted through shattered windows. Spanish rail infrastructure manager Adif said the crash occurred when a high-speed train travelling from Malaga to Madrid derailed at the entrance to Adamuz, crossed onto an adjacent track and struck another train running from Madrid to Huelva, forcing both trains off the rails. The first train, Iryo 6189, was carrying around 300 passengers, the operating company said, while authorities confirmed that around 500 passengers and staff were onboard both trains at the time of the collision. According to Andalusia region's President, Juanma Moreno, 245 people were injured in the crash. Seventy-five were hospitalised, including 15 in critical condition, while another 170 received treatment for minor injuries at a field hospital in Adamuz. The cause of the crash remains unknown. Speaking to reporters at Atocha station in Madrid, Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente said investigations were underway to determine what led to the derailment. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain was facing a 'night of deep pain,' as condolences poured in from across the country. Sunday's disaster is Spain's deadliest rail accident since 2013, when a high-speed train derailed near Santiago de Compostela, killing 80 people."
