DSWD vows support services for VAWC victim-survivors

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has assured victims of violence against women and children (VAWC) that they will receive a full range of services to support their recovery and reintegration. DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said on Monday that the agency, together with other government institutions and frontline social workers, remains committed to standing by VAWC victim-survivors. “In situations like this, we want to assure them that the DSWD, together with other government agencies and our social workers who are on the frontlines against VAWC, will support them and guide them throughout their recovery,” Dumlao said. The DSWD leads efforts in preventing and responding to all forms of abuse that place women and children at risk. “The DSWD is actively implementing various programs and activities to combat violence against women and children, and we provide what is truly a comprehensive package of services,” she added. These services include temporary shelter through the agency’s centers and residential care facilities, along with assistance aimed at restoring the social functioning of victim-survivors. “Our focus is on social welfare interventions, particularly on recovery and reintegration, as well as counseling and psychosocial support,” Dumlao said. Beyond psychosocial care, the DSWD also ensures that victim-survivors are referred to partner agencies for services such as legal assistance. “One of the interventions we provide is referral pathway services, especially for legal concerns, which are handled by our partner agencies that can give proper guidance and assistance,” Dumlao said. “If there are fees required in filing cases, we can also extend assistance to help address those needs,” she stated.
