‘Ada’ keeping its strength, but dumping less rain —Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Likely to weaken into a low-pressure area (LPA), Tropical Depression Ada has maintained its strength, but no longer dumping heavy rain, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday. Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Ada was estimated to be 675 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, while moving eastward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph). With maximum sustained winds of 55kph and gustiness of 70kph, Ada is forecast to move generally eastward before turning south-southeastward until Wednesday. In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa said continuous dry air entrainment (movement) from the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’, is expected to result in the gradual weakening of Ada. It may be downgraded into an LPA by Wednesday, although earlier weakening remains possible, according to Pagasa. Amihan is affecting the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley, it said. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have cloudy skies with isolated rain showers, and thunderstorms are expected to prevail within the next 24 hours, it added.
