"A member of the National Police of Peru (PNP) identified as Patrick Ospina Orihuela was swept away by the current of the Rimac River, in Lima, as he attempted to rescue a dog. The incident occurred by the Rayito de Sol bridge on the morning of Friday, when the fast-flowing river, bolstered after recent rainfall, proved too strong for the brave officer, sweeping him away along with the animal. Both Orihuela and the dog remain missing, at the time of publication. According to the General Volunteer Fire Department of Peru, to which Patrick Ospina also belongs, the incident led to the deployment of ‘more than 10 units and 40 volunteer firefighters’, in addition to drones and tracking teams, in an operation that is focused on several stretches of the Rimac River. The National Police of Peru have denied reports circulating that claim the missing officer is dead, noting that a body has not been found."
