"Every day the 400-old market in the traditional Chawkbazar of Old Dhaka is bustling with people racing to buy yummies for the Ramadan celebration. Footage filmed on Saturday shows market stalls laden with hundreds of mouth-watering delicacies as the sweet aroma of lucid kebabs, spicy haleem and sugar jilapir floats in the air. "This is a traditional Iftar market in Bangladesh," one of the locals, Titu Bepari, stated. "There is no food item that you cannot find here. You will find all kinds of food items in this market. Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka is everyone's choice for Iftar items during the month of Ramadan." Built centuries ago, the market near the Shahi Mosque boasts a living reflection of the culture and culinary heritage of Old Dhaka. "People from different places, including Old Dhaka, Dhanmondi, Gulshan, Banani and others come here to buy Iftar. The menus that are served in Chawkbazar are not served anywhere else in Dhaka City," Mohammad Jony added. "These foods of Chawkbazar have won the hearts of people even today." Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar (Hijri), is one of the holiest months for Muslims. The Muslim is required to fast from dawn to sunset, as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. With about 150 million or over 90 percent of the population being Muslims, Islam is the state religion of Bangladesh. Annually, Ramadan is met with high anticipation and rejoicement in the country."
