'This resistance will not end' - Baalbek funeral honours Hezbollah's Hussein Yaghi and operatives killed in Israeli strikes

"Hundreds came together for a funeral procession in Baalbek on Saturday as the city laid to rest slain Hezbollah senior commander Hussein Yaghi and a number of other operatives who were killed in Israeli strikes against Bekaa. Footage shows militants marching alongside local residents and scouts, carrying coffins and images of the fallen as they moved toward the Martyrs' Paradise cemetery. "It is important to realise that this resistance will not end, nor will its role be undermined as it is an everlasting perpetual resistance," Ali Othman, the mukhtar of Baalbek. "We hope that both the Lebanese people and government embrace this resistance against the Israeli enemy. This violation by the Israeli enemy is not accepted by anyone, as it is deplorable," he stressed. On Saturday, Hezbollah released a statement mourning their slain commander, saying he "ascended as a martyr for the sake of Lebanon and its people". This comes after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Friday that its forces 'struck and eliminated' several Hezbollah operatives across 'three different command centres' in the Baalbek area, accusing them of planning attacks against Israel. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Sidon area and the towns of Bekaa, noting that these strikes constitute a "violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and a clear breach of international commitments". According to Lebanese media, dozens were injured and at least 12 killed in the Israeli strikes, including 10 in the Bekaa region and two in the Hattin neighbourhood of the Ain al-Hilweh camp. Israel has conducted several raids in Lebanon since the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah came into effect on November 27, 2024. Israel claims its strikes targeted Hezbollah's 'infrastructure and operatives' in Lebanon."
