"Residents in La Paz celebrated the Lunar New Year on Saturday with a vibrant parade, featuring traditional lion and dragon dances, lively music and customary costumes to usher in the new lunar cycle. Footage shows participants parading through city streets, performing cultural displays such as martial arts and gymnastics, and drawing cheers from crowds lining the route. "It is a very nice space for connecting with oneself, mentally, emotionally, spiritually," said participant Andrea Arandia during the celebration, noting that it is about a 'change of energy'. The event also featured groups of children showcasing musical talents, adding energy and tradition to the festivities marked by the sign of the fire horse. "We leave the year of the snake behind, the year of the fire horse comes to show us all that energy, that courage, that enthusiasm we need for success, for this year," added Andrea Arandia. Some attendees highlighted the importance of such celebrations for learning about Chinese cultural expressions. Alongside the dragon dance, another group of people dressed as lions moved to the rhythm of percussion instruments, complementing the cultural display. According to the Chinese horoscope, the horse symbolises freedom and independence, while fire represents passion and courage. The last time this combination appeared was in 1966. Millions worldwide are marking the arrival of the Year of the Horse. The Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, is a major holiday across Asia, particularly in Chinese culture. The 15-day celebration runs from February 17 to March 3 this year."
