Lit-erally glowing! Giant Banban Dragon Lanterns take centre stage at Cili's Lunar New Year festival

"Hundreds-of-metres-long giant Banban Dragon Lanterns took the centre stage at Cili's Lunar New Year celebrations as the annual festival kicked off on Saturday in Zhangjiajie city. Footage shows the city ablaze with light as the breathtaking lantern procession whizzed through its streets and rivers, following the grand opening ceremony at a local stadium. "As soon as I arrived at the scene, I felt the lively and festive atmosphere," a tourist commented. "What impressed me most was how incredibly long the dragon lanterns were, each segment interlocking and so distinctive." "It's truly spectacular and awe-inspiring. Seeing everyone work together to dance with the dragon lanterns, this kind of united and lively scene is incredibly uplifting," another added. The giant Banban dragon lantern is traditionally composed of a leading dragon head lantern, body lanterns, and tail lanterns. Deeply rooted in regional history, the Cili Banban Dragon Lantern was included in a representative list of state-level intangible cultural heritage items in 2021."
