MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems – easterlies, shear line, and northeast monsoon (‘amihan’) – have been affecting the entire archipelago, bringing isolated and scattered downpours in some areas in 24 hours, the weather agency said on Monday. Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that the agency has not monitored any weather disturbance inside and outside the country’s area of responsibility in the coming days. In particular, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Northern Samar would likely have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the convergence of hot and cold air called shear line, according to the Pagasa forecaster. He said Mindanao and the rest of Eastern Visayas would have overcast skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the humid and warm easterly winds from the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, the effects of amihan would be felt over Quezon and the rest of the Bicol region, bringing cloudy skies with light rains, Pagasa stated. The same weather system would prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain in 24 hours, it added.
