"Roadblocks and vehicle burnings were reported on Sunday in the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, after federal authorities announced the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during an operation in Jalisco. Footage shows a truck set on fire on the highway connecting Reynosa with the city of Rio Bravo, while police patrol cars guard the area. According to the government of Tamaulipas, federal and state authorities worked in coordination in Reynosa and the riverside area, restoring circulation at 23 road points and allowing the 'progressive normalisation' of vehicle traffic in the region. A State Security spokesperson asserted that authorities continue active security and surveillance patrols, as well as ongoing attention to citizen reports, to ensure order and the safety of the population. At least 10 states in the country reported highway blockades and vehicles set on fire this Sunday, including Jalisco, Nayarit, Michoacan and Tamaulipas, in a day of violence following the official announcement. During the operation in the town of Tapalpa, Jalisco, four CJNG members were killed, while three others died during their transfer to Mexico City, including 'El Mencho'. Three soldiers were injured in the operation. Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes was wanted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which was offering a reward of up to 15 million USD (12.7 million EUR) for his capture. The operation received support from 'complementary information' from the US government, as part of the work of 'coordination and bilateral cooperation', according to Mexico's Ministry of Defence."
