Tourist paradise in flames - Smoke rises above Puerto Vallarta as violence erupts following federal killing of cartel boss

"Puerto Vallarta - one of Mexico's top tourist destinations in Jalisco - faced a day of intense violence on Sunday, with multiple reports of arson attacks, roadblocks and shootings across the city. Footage shows plumes of dense, black smoke over a residential area, transforming the usually serene tropical paradise into scenes of havoc. The unrest follow's the government announcement that Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as 'El Mencho', was killed by federal forces during an operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco. In response to the security situation, several international airlines, including Air Canada and United Airlines, temporarily suspended flights to and from Puerto Vallarta International Airport, disrupting the city's tourism-dependent economy. The Government of Puerto Vallarta urged residents to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel as a precaution. Meanwhile, the state government of Jalisco declared a red code, coordinating all security forces and suspending classes on Monday. Mexican authorities reported 252 cartel-led blockades across 20 states, with Jalisco recording the highest number, mainly on federal and state highways and key roads."
