Finance chief says uncertainties surrounding US tariff scheme 'very' high

Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol said Monday that uncertainties surrounding U.S. tariff measures remain "very" high following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling. Koo made the remarks during a parliamentary briefing after the top court decided to strike down U.S. President Donald Trump's global "reciprocal" tariffs. "The level of uncertainty in the situation is very high," Koo said when asked about the court's decision. "In some respects, it could be a positive development, but it could also have negative effects." Uncertainty surrounding the measures further increased after Trump announced a new global levy of 15 percent from 10 percent on trading partners despite the court ruling. Koo said the latest measure is unlikely to change significantly from the previous policy but cautioned that nothing has been finalized. "It is difficult to say anything definitively at this stage," he said. The finance minister added that the government will respond proactively to changes in the situation while maintaining composure.
