OVER P138 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in a series of operations in terminals, cargo facilities and mail centers within the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Feb. 5 to 11, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP Avsegroup) said on Monday. "Within 5 days, the Philippine National Police will complete its task group, the Inter-Agency Drug Intervention Task Group, which is to stop the entry of illegal drugs through passenger terminals, cargo facilities, and mail centers,” Avsegroup public information office chief LtCol. Harold Tosino told reporters in a press briefing at Camp Crame. On Feb. 11, authorities intercepted three abandoned inbound parcels at the Piers Cargo Area containing more or less 5.4 kilograms of shabu worth P36.8 million. The illegal drugs were hidden in containers and disguised as CCTVs, handbags, and hot water bottles. On Feb. 13, four abandoned parcels were busted at the Central Rail Exchange Center containing 3.7 kilograms of high-grade marijuana Kush hidden in vacuum-sealed packaging worth P5.6 million. “The suspects were not arrested early in this case, but the investigation is ongoing to find the culprits,” Tosino said.
