(UPDATE) THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said its technical divers recovered another body during underwater operations on Feb. 22 off Basilan in connection with the sinking of the passenger vessel MV Trisha Kerstin 3, raising the confirmed death toll to 65. The PCG said that 14 people remain missing. Authorities said the casualty figures were consolidated through joint validation efforts involving the PCG, Philippine National Police Scene of the Crime Operatives, local City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao, and affected families who have been conducting daily coordination with interagency responders. The PCG said that underwater search operations are ongoing, with technical dive teams working to access submerged sections of the vessel believed to be potential locations of trapped victims.
