‘Orban is a problem’ - Tusk blasts Hungary over 'political sabotage' of European united front against Russia

"Poland and Norway on Monday reaffirmed their deepening military cooperation, including the training of Ukrainian soldiers on Polish soil, as part of broader efforts to strengthen Europe’s eastern defences amid Russia’s war on Ukraine. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Camp Jomsborg symbolised ‘very practical and profound’ cooperation between the two countries, linking support for Ukraine directly to European security. Built by Norway, Camp Jomsborg is part of an initiative by Nordic and Baltic countries to train Ukrainian military personnel in Poland’s Lipa. “It is direct assistance to the fighting Ukraine, but it is also Polish-Norwegian cooperation,” Tusk said, adding that Warsaw and Oslo saw eye-to-eye on the Russia-Ukraine war, rearming Europe and strengthening NATO. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store described the initiative as historic, thanking Poland for hosting what he called a Nordic-Baltic effort to support Ukraine. Store praised what he described as ‘frictionless cooperation’ between Norway and Poland, calling it one of Oslo’s closest partnerships in decades. Asked about discussions in Europe on nuclear deterrence, Tusk said there are talks with France on nuclear deterrence but added that the proposal was not yet sufficiently defined. Tusk also criticised Hungary’s decision to veto the EU's proposed €90 billion loan and the 20th package of sanctions on Russia over the Druzhba pipeline row. “I believe that both Viktor Orban, as well as his government, is a problem. This is a European government, but at the same time, there is political sabotage taking place, which prevents effective assistance to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression,” Tusk said. The camp is part of an Operation Legio initiative, through which the Nordic and Baltic states, alongside Poland, are seeking to equip and train Ukraine’s defence forces."
