Warm, humid weather due to easterlies prevails over PH —Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Only one weather system, the easterlies – warm, humid winds from the Pacific Ocean – would prevail over the entire archipelago in the next 24 hours, according to the state weather bureau. Weather specialist Veronica Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the agency has not monitored any low-pressure area forming within the country’s area of responsibility. Although the weather agency has yet to declare if the northeast monsoon season, locally known as ‘amihan’, is over, this weather system has weakened in the past days and is actually no longer affecting any parts of the country, the Pagasa forecaster said. In particular, the national weather bureau said the easterlies would bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi. Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rain are possible in these areas, the latest Pagasa bulletin issued at 5 a.m. said. The same weather system would affect Metro Manila and the rest of the country, bringing cloudy to overcast skies, isolated rain showers, or thunderstorms. “Generally, most parts of the country are expected to experience fair weather within 24 hours,” Torres said.
