Toxic red tide alert raised in Zamboanga Peninsula, Eastern Samar

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has sounded the alarm on the presence of toxic red tide in some coastal waters in the country, warning residents against consuming shellfish harvested from affected areas. In its latest Shellfish Bulletin No. 04, Series of 2026, the BFAR confirmed positive paralytic shellfish poison levels in Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, Tantanang Bay in Zamboanga Sibugay, and Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar.
