"The Muslim community in Toamasina has begun a major humanitarian effort to provide hot meals each day to thousands of people affected by Cyclone Gezani, as the devastation left by the storm overlaps with the holy month of Ramadan. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows volunteers preparing large cooking pots and serving food to affected families and children who lined up holding their empty containers. "We are organising the distribution of cooked meals for people in need who were affected by the disaster caused by Cyclone Gezani. Every day, we distribute lunch to 3,000 people for 30 days," said Swaleh, a representative of the Muslim community in Antananarivo. Project Coordinator Akyl Cassam Chenai explained that efforts go beyond providing food, extending support to key institutions across the city, including the army, medical staff, and electricity workers. "Ramadan is a month of sharing," he added. "We thank those who helped us. Here in Toamasina, we are very grateful, and may God also help those who help us," said Claudette, one of the affected residents. "We are very happy to see this - it was a real surprise for us," she continued. In early February, Madagascar was hit by a powerful cyclone Fitiya. Later, Tropical Cyclone Gezani hit the island nation, affecting over 423,000 people as of February 16."
