Brazil's Lula meets UAE Pres Mohamed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi to advance Mercosur trade talks

"Luiz Inacio ‘Lula’ da Silva, President of Brazil, held a meeting with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahayan, on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi.. During the meeting, both leaders adressed cooperation in trade and investment, with the aim of deepening the strategic partnership between Brazil and the United Arab Emirates, which dates back more than 50 years. The Brazilian president reiterated his interest in concluding the negotiations of the MERCOSUR-UAE Agreement to establish a comprehensive economic partnership, highlighting the Emirati participation in the Tropical Forests Forever Fund. In this context, Lula da Silva stressed the importance of maintaining a high-level dialogue, therefore he reported that he invited the President of the United Arab Emirates to Brazil this year to continue the common agenda, without detailing a specific date. During the meeting, both leaders shared opinions and points of view on joint efforts to promote stability in the Middle East, thus expanding cooperation beyond the economic sphere, according to local sources. Lula da Silva's arrival in Abu Dhabi took place after his visit to India, where he participated in the 2nd AI Impact Summit and held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address issues of importance for the Global South. Subsequently, the Brazilian president traveled to South Korea to meet with his counterpart Lee Jae Myung and advance negotiations for a free trade agreement between both countries."
