Kathmandu’s former mayor, Balen Shah, has dropped the China-backed Damak Industrial Park, part of the Belt and Road Initiative, from his election manifesto while contesting against KP Sharma Oli in Jhapa-5. The move comes amid concerns over the project’s proximity to the India border and ongoing political and financial sensitivities surrounding BRI investments in Nepal.
