"Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said recorded evidence exists against two men arrested on suspicion of planning an assassination attempt against him, describing the case as serious and involving extremely violent intentions. “What I managed to see is this: how they say my child should be beaten to death, that he should be slaughtered. So let me tell you — when you speak about this, and I see that around 70 people are advocating for such individuals to be released — these are people who want to slaughter someone’s child. Just bear that in mind,” Vucic said in Belgrade on Tuesday. He added that the alleged motives behind the plot were based on misinformation. “If I were to tell you the reason, you would not believe me. It is based on lies that they may have read somewhere.” Responding to a question about whether the case reflects a broader campaign against him and his family, Vucic said such threats are not unique. “This probably happens everywhere in the world,” he stated, adding that in Serbia the situation is aggravated by what he described as the silence or approval of certain media outlets. Serbian law enforcement agencies have arrested two men in Kraljevo on suspicion of plotting an assassination attempt against President Vucic and planning attacks on his wife, children and Interior Ministry employees. The suspects, born in 1975 and 1983, have been placed in 48-hour custody and are expected to be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo, as authorities pledge a firm response to threats against Serbia’s state institutions."
