Lepanto gets community consent for Benguet mine deal renewal

MANILA, Philippines — Lepanto Consolidated Mining Co. of mining magnate Felipe Yap has gained support from the majority of barangays within the Mankayan Ancestral Domain to renew its mining contract in Benguet. The listed gold producer informed the local bourse on Tuesday that it had received the consent of most barangays during the consensus-building phase of the Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) process. FPIC is a requirement under the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act of 1997.
