"The Military Fire Brigade of Minas Gerais continues search operations for people reported missing or buried due to the heavy rains recorded on Monday and early Tuesday, which left at least 23 dead. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows rescue workers digging through the debris of collapsed buildings with heavy tools and by hand, and a search dog sniffing through the rubble at the site of the destruction. The efforts have been concentrated mainly in Juiz de Fora and Uba, the cities hardest hit by the flooding, where authorities have declared a state of public calamity. In both Juiz de Fora and Uba, firefighters search through rubble of collapsed buildings for missing persons, supported by canine units and 20 military personnel deployed from Belo Horizonte. According to the latest report from authorities, at least seven deaths and two missing persons have been recorded in Uba. In Juiz de Fora, the number of fatalities rose to 17. In response to the situation, the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeo Zema, decreed three days of official mourning in the state as a mark of respect for those who have lost their lives due to the rains that caused the Paraibuna River to overflow."
