US vs Ukraine at UN! - Washington ABSTAINS on motion supporting Kiev claiming 'certain language is likely to distract from ongoing negotiations'

"The United States and Ukraine clashed over a crunch vote at the United Nations on Tuesday, as the General Assembly voted on a motion of the support for Kiev on the fourth anniversary of the conflict with Russia. The US proposed amendments to the language - and when those did not pass, abstained on the final vote. Ukraine's Mariana Betsa said the changes would send a 'very dangerous signal', while Tammy Bruce from the US was unmoved. "While the United States welcomes the resolution's call for an immediate ceasefire, our view is that certain language in the resolution is likely to distract from ongoing negotiations," Bruce said prior to the vote. The speaker announced: “The result of the vote is as follows. In favour, 107. Against, 12. Abstentions. 51. Draught Resolution A/ES11/L17 is adopted.” The resolution mentioned "the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders.” The US had wanted separate vote on parts involving Ukraine’s territorial integrity and international law. It comes ahead of crunch talks between the US and Ukraine this week in Geneva, following the trilateral with Russia last week. Washington has repeatedly told Kiev it must make some concessions on land, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has so far refused to countenance."
